Winner winner, chicken dinner! A cheeky Nando's is loved by everyone. It's the simplicity of juicy, tasty chicken, easy sides and the fiyaah of peri peri. So its no wonder that peri peri look-a-like joints have opened up everywhere following Nando's success.
Our pursuit with Hemel Food is to celebrate local and independent eateries, so when we fancied chicken, we turned to Lawn Lane Peri Peri instead of Nandos. Also because you lot kept going on and on that we had to try it!
Peri Peri Lawn Lane is a franchise of Peri Peri Original and has been open since 2011 and offers chicken, burgers, pitas, wings and fried chicken with a large range of sides and dips and also offer milk shakes made with chocolate bars (a la Shaketastic). Orders can be placed on the phone, in person, on their app, or on ordering apps such as Uber Eats. It's right down the road, and -nice attribute for a midweek cheat night dinner- our meal for two came to £20 which included lemon & herb wings, popcorn chicken, hot peri peri breast pita, two Diet Pepsi and fries for two. Our food arrived promptly 25 minutes after we ordered it and it was still piping hot.
The wings tumbled out of the foil lined bag in an acidic, insipid, thin sauce studded with dried herbs. Luckily the chicken itself was good quality, cooked perfectly and juicy, and -best of all- they were all wingettes which are my favourite part of the chicken wing, and....there were lots of them in the portion. The fries were great too. They were lightly seasoned crisp chips; nothing fancy but generously portioned and great vehicles for dips.
J's hot chicken breast pita didn't look like much. However, it was fresh, crisp and well-spiced with a gentle heat and well-seasoned. There was a fair amount of chicken in the pita and it was juicy and cooked well. It could have done with some sauce alongside the simple cucumber, tomato, onion salad, and maybe a bit more chicken, but it was a perfectly pleasant pitta pocket. The popcorn chicken was real chunks of chicken breast which was lovely; and the batter was crisp and incredibly well seasoned. Dare I say it....better popcorn chicken that the Colonels.......
Peri Peri Lawn Lane isn't going to set the world alight for sure, but it's a fast food chicken - all you want is good quality, tasty chicken with some good flavours. It delivers on that front: decent chicken, cooked well and for a good price, delivered hot and in good time. Better than Nandos? I would say so, which is the obvious point of comparison.
Service:
So many ways to order and delivery in great time
Quality:
Not organic or free-range chicken (that we could discern) but it was all cooked well and tasty. Slightly sharp lemon & herb sauce so I may not have that particular marinade again. Overall pleasant though.
Value & Price:
£20 for a good amount of food
Overall:
GOOD- We would certainly get this again. Fair price for a good meal.
One of the best chicken shop i been to ! Keep it up the quality work :)
